Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about OneKampung

New here? These are the questions people ask us most. Can't find your answer? Our full User Guide walks through everything step by step, or just get in touch and we'll help.

1. About OneKampung

What is OneKampung?

OneKampung is a Singapore directory of home-based businesses — the bakers, home cooks, caterers, makers, tutors, and small services running from people's homes. It's a friendly place for neighbours to discover local businesses and for those businesses to be found. Think of it as a community noticeboard for home-grown Singapore talent.

Is OneKampung a shop? Can I buy things here?

No — OneKampung is a directory, not an online shop. There's no shopping cart and no checkout for products. When you find a business you like, you contact them directly (WhatsApp, phone, or email shown on their listing) to ask questions, place an order, and arrange payment and delivery between yourselves — just like calling a neighbourhood shop.

Does it cost anything to use OneKampung?

Browsing, searching, reading reviews, and saving your favourites are completely free for everyone. Business owners can also list for free on our Free plan; paid plans are optional upgrades for those who want more (see Plans & payment).

Who runs OneKampung?

We're a small local team. Every new business is personally checked by us before it first joins, which is how we keep the directory trustworthy. You can reach us any time on our Contact Us page.

2. Browsing & searching

Do I need an account just to look around?

No. You can browse the whole directory, search, filter, and read reviews without signing up. You only need a free account if you want to leave a review, save favourites, or list your own business.

How do I find a business?

Use the search bar at the top of the directory. You can:

  • Type a keyword (e.g. "kueh", "cake", "tuition").
  • Pick a category (e.g. Food & Beverage, Beauty, Services).
  • Narrow by Region (Central, East, North, North-East, West) and then by Town.

You can also browse the Categories and Locations pages to explore by type or area.

What's the difference between "Business" and "Products" in the search?

There's a toggle on the search bar. Business shows you whole businesses (a baker, a caterer). Products shows individual items those businesses offer (a specific cake, a specific kueh set). Switch between them depending on whether you're looking for who or what.

What does the green "Muslim-owned" badge mean?

Some Food & Beverage businesses display a green Muslim-owned label. This is self-declared by the business owner to help customers who are looking specifically for Muslim-owned food businesses. You can also filter your search to show only these. Note: this indicates the business is Muslim-owned — it is not a formal halal certification.

How do I save a business to come back to later?

Log in (a free account), then click the Save / bookmark icon on any listing. Your saved businesses appear under Saved in your dashboard.

What are "Stories"?

Stories are short featured articles written by the OneKampung team about the people behind the businesses — how they started, what they make, what makes them special. They're a nice way to get to know a business before you buy.

For business owners: a featured story is a Premium plan perk. Shortly after your listing goes Premium you'll receive an email inviting you to share your story through a short form — our editor turns your answers into the article, and you approve the draft before anything is published.

3. Accounts & signing up

How do I create an account?

Go to the Register page, choose a username, enter your email and a password, and agree to the terms. Your username is your public name on OneKampung (it appears on your reviews and listings) and can't be changed later. We'll send a verification email — click the link inside to activate your account. That's it.

I didn't get the verification email. What do I do?

First, check your spam / junk folder. The link is valid for 24 hours. If you still don't see it, you can request a new one from the verification screen (up to 3 times per hour). Still stuck? Contact us and we'll verify you manually.

Why do I need to verify my email?

It confirms you're a real person and helps keep spam and fake reviews out of the community. You'll need a verified account to leave reviews or create a listing.

I forgot my password.

On the Login page, use the "Lost your password?" link. You'll get an email with a secure link to set a new one.

What is "My Dashboard"?

It's your personal control panel after you log in. From My Dashboard you can edit your profile, manage your business and product listings, reply to reviews, see your saved businesses, and manage your plan. The full User Guide gives a guided tour.

4. Listing your business

How do I list my home-based business?
  1. Create a free account and verify your email.
  2. Go to My Dashboard → Business Listings and click Add Listing.
  3. Fill in your business details, add photos, and choose your category and location.
  4. Submit. We review it, and once approved it goes live in the directory.

Step-by-step with every field explained is in the User Guide.

Why isn't my listing showing up straight away?

Your first business listing is personally checked by our team before it goes live — that's how we keep OneKampung trustworthy, and it usually takes 1 to 2 working days (you'll get an email when it's approved). After that first listing, your later listings, products, and edits usually appear right away — our system only holds one back for a closer look if something looks unusual (for example, lots of links or a duplicate business name).

How do I edit or delete my listing?

Log in, go to My Dashboard → Business Listings, and click Edit (or Delete) on the listing. Your edits usually appear right away; occasionally a change is held for a quick check if something looks unusual.

What makes a good listing?
  • A clear business name and a warm, honest description.
  • Good, bright photos of your products or work.
  • The right category and your correct town so people can find you.
  • A contact method you actually check (WhatsApp is popular).
How many listings can I create?

It depends on your plan. The Free plan includes one business listing; paid plans allow more listings and more products. See Plans & payment.

What are the photo rules?

Each photo can be up to 5 MB. If your photo is very large, we automatically shrink it to a web-friendly size — you don't need to resize it yourself. The number of photos you can add depends on your plan.

5. Products

What's the difference between a "business" and a "product"?

A business is your storefront — your overall listing. A product is one specific item you offer (e.g. "Pandan Chiffon Cake", "Nasi Lemak Set"). You add products under your business so customers can browse exactly what you sell.

How do I add products?

From My Dashboard → Product Listings → Add Product. Give it a name, price, photo, and description. Like businesses, a product may be checked before it appears — but once you're an established owner it usually goes live right away.

Do I choose a category and town for each product?

No — products automatically inherit the category, town, and Muslim-owned status from the business they belong to. This keeps things consistent and saves you time. (If you change the business's details later, existing products keep the values they were saved with.)

Can customers buy a product on the site?

No. Products are shown so customers know what you offer; they then contact you directly to order. OneKampung doesn't handle the sale or take a cut.

6. Reviews & ratings

How do I leave a review?

You need a free, verified account. Open the business (or product) page, choose a star rating (1–5), write your review, and submit. Reviews may be checked before appearing, to keep out spam.

Can I review my own business?

No — you can't review your own listing, and each person can leave one review per business (and one per product). This keeps ratings fair and honest.

Someone left a review of my business. Can I respond?

Yes. As the owner you can post one reply to each review, from your dashboard. A calm, friendly reply — even to a critical review — shows future customers you care.

Can I get a bad or unfair review removed?

We don't remove reviews just for being negative — honest feedback is what makes the directory useful. But if a review is spam, abusive, fake, or breaks our rules, tell us and we'll look into it.

Why does a business's star rating combine differently from its products?

Business reviews and product reviews are kept separate. A business has its own overall rating, and each product has its own — so a great cake can shine on its own even if it's part of a newer business.

7. Plans, upgrades & payment

What plans are available?

There are three:

  • Free: get listed with the basics.
  • Basic: more products and photos, and more visibility.
  • Premium: the most products/photos, featured placement, and extra perks.
The current price, limits, and perks for each plan are shown on the plan page in your dashboard, so you always see the latest.
How do I upgrade?

Go to My Dashboard → Subscribed Plans, choose a plan, and you'll be taken to a secure checkout to enter your card details. Once payment goes through, your new plan's benefits apply right away.

Is paying safe?

Yes. Payments are handled by Stripe, a trusted global payment provider. OneKampung never sees or stores your full card number.

Monthly or yearly — what's the difference?

You can pay monthly, or pay yearly and get two months free (you pay for ten months, get twelve). Yearly is the cheaper option if you plan to stay a while.

Is there an early-bird discount?

Yes — for a limited time, early businesses that upgrade get a special early-bird rate, applied automatically at checkout while spots last.

How do I cancel? Do I lose my listing?

You can cancel any time from My Dashboard → Subscribed Plans. You keep your paid benefits until the end of the period you've already paid for — nothing is cut off early. After that, your account moves back to the Free plan (your listing stays, within Free-plan limits).

If you have more products than the Free plan includes, the extra products are paused — hidden from the directory but fully kept, photos and reviews included. You choose which products stay live from My Dashboard → Product Listings, and upgrading again un-pauses everything.

Will I get a receipt?

Yes — Stripe emails you a receipt for each payment, and you can see your renewal date in your dashboard.

What happens if my payment fails?

We'll email you and give you a short grace period to update your card. If it isn't sorted out, your listing simply moves to the Free plan — it stays live and you won't lose any content. Products over the Free plan's limit are paused (hidden, never deleted) and you can pick which ones stay live from your dashboard. Fixing the payment restores your plan and un-pauses everything.

8. Trust, safety & badges

What does the "Verified" badge mean?

Because our team personally checks every business before it joins, we mark approved businesses as Verified — our way of saying "we've checked this one." It's about trust, not a paid feature.

What does "Featured" mean?

Featured businesses and products get extra visibility — for example, appearing higher up or in a highlighted spot. Featuring is part of the paid plans.

What is the "Founding Seller" badge?

The bronze ★ Founding Seller badge marks the very first businesses that joined OneKampung — the sellers who took a chance on us early. It's limited to the first few sellers, it's permanent (it stays whatever plan the business is on), and it can't be bought. Founding Sellers also received the Premium plan free for their first two months.

Is my personal data safe?

We only collect what we need to run the directory, and we ask for your consent (PDPA) when you sign up. See our Privacy Policy for the details.

How do you keep spam and scams out?

Several ways: every new business is checked by a human before it joins, accounts must verify their email, new or unusual submissions are automatically flagged for a closer look, forms are protected against bots, and reviews are screened. If you spot something dodgy, please tell us.

9. Problems & getting help

Something isn't working / a page looks broken.

Try refreshing the page, or opening it in a different browser. If it still won't work, please contact us and tell us what you were doing and what device you're on — that helps us fix it fast.

I need step-by-step help with my listing.

Our User Guide covers everything in detail, in plain English, with every screen explained. It's the best place to start.

How do I contact a real person?

Head to our Contact Us page. We're a small local team, so please allow 2 to 3 working days for a reply — we read every message.

Still have a question?
